No Way. No How. June 6, 2007

Well our niffty little trial is over.

After day one of the bottle stand-off everyone was ready for bed. Fiona never gave in…that’s right, my little girl has nerves of steel, she will never give up! She was a good girl for the grandparents and had a pretty good day…just no bottle. Today was my mom’s turn to take a stab at it. Maybe two days in a row would ware her down? Oh no….not my little prize fighter…she has stamina! By around 2 p.m. we decided that the test was done.

Once again she was a pretty good little girl for my mom…she really only cried when my mom tried to give her the bottle…the rest of the time she was in a pretty good mood. If that was always the case this wouldn’t be such a problem…unfortunately little babies dehydrate easily and even in our limited experiment her diaper count was down considerably for the day.

It’s funny when I tell people about this. I can see in their eyes they don’t believe me. “you should try….”, “have you done….”, “oh she’ll take it…all babies take the bottle…”, “if she’s hungry enough…”. I can see that they are thinking that I really haven’t tried very hard…that I’m being a push-over…that maybe i’m exagerating what we’ve done. I mean, ALL babies take a bottle. That’s what babies do.

Everyone thinks they will be able to do it…that maybe we just don’t know “the way”. Secretly I take great pleasure in seeing these people crash in flames as my daughter puts them in their place with their little baby bottle in hand.

I’m finally beginning to see the trend. Everything that anyone has told us “you aboslutely have it works for all babies”…hasn’t worked. Every time someone has said, “this is the trick” or “every baby loves it” Fiona has proven them wrong. She truly is a beautifully unique little soul. I love that about her. Frustrating? YES. Difficult? YES. Am I Scared? YES YES YES =)
