So – we have this problem – and we honestly don’t know what to do. Our cat (1 of 3!) is a Tom cat….he lives to roam the neighborhood and strut his stuff. One of our neighbors has an elderly male cat – who is also an outdoor cat – that our cat has been picking fights with. Now in my life I have had MANY cats, and to me this is pretty normal outdoor cat behavior. They complained to us and we apologized and asked them if they had any suggestions for us. At which time they laughed and told us stories about how when their cat was younger he did the same thing (which we know to be true because everyone in the neighborhood is familiar with their cat….also a roamer in his youth). They said that they wouldn’t care if happened in the street but since it was happening on their property it wasn’t o.k. Um…..Uh – I’m sorry – but cat’s don’t understand…or care….about property lines.

Long story short they reported our cat to animal control – who then issued a warning to us that we have a “vicious and dangerous” animal that we had to keep on our property going forward or it could result in legal action.

WHAT? A vicious and dangerous animal? He’s a cat…doing cat things….to a cat…who ALSO did the SAME cat things. This is what cats do. Are we totally wrong to think that this is the most ridiculous thing in the world? We talked to our vet and he had never heard of such a thing. We’ve talked to friends and no one can believe it. The sad thing is that our poor little kitty is suffering being forced to stay inside 100% of the time. It is truly against his nature.

We’ve been trying unsuccessfully to contact animal control to find out what our rights are. We have had friends that have had animal situations in the past that advised us to start a neighborhood petition…which we’re working on….but for now BEWARE – DO NOT COME TO OUR HOME OR OUR VICIOUS DANGEROUS kitty kitty MIGHT i don’t know…what? shed on you?

And Then… October 5, 2008

It always happens…once Greg leaves it seems like all sorts of things go wrong. Literally the day after he left the engine light came on in my car and I couldn’t get it in till the following week….luckily I had his to drive…Fiona picked up an awful cold (from her daddy) so she WAS NOT sleeping….all the pets had to go to the vet (more on pet problems later) and we continued to have problems with a “neighbor” (more on that later too!).

We did manage to salvage the weekend by driving up to CleElum to visit Lori and her new cabin. They are still in the process of building their cabin so it was fun to see it in the works. They are lucky to have a family friend that has a cabin just a couple of minutes away so they can stay at her house while they work. Lori and her Dad were out fishing when we got there so Fi got to see some fly-fishing and even a fish! We hung out, went for a walk and just had a nice time on the eastside – it was a good way to spend the day:

Before daddy left for Interbike October 5, 2008

We have been scrambling to finish our bathroom remodel but truly have a long way to go. The house is not entirely newly plumbed and we finally have a floor in the bathroom so Greg put in the toilet before he left last time so that we could use our newish bathroom! Fiona wanted to nothing to do with me that night – all she wanted to do was “help” daddy and grandpa:

We spent a nice Saturday at the new bike park in downtown Seattle for their opening celebration. Fi loved watching people on the jump and would yell “wheeeee” when they went by. She also loved running and jumping and climbing with her daddy in the trials area:

And when daddy went out for a ride hoping to enjoy one of the last days of seattle summer fi and i met Ellie and Jackson at the park/beach and played & chased birds

OKAY October 5, 2008

It has been about a month since I’ve posted so I’m going to try and get caught up. It’s been a busy month – so much so that I’ve actually forgotten to brush my teeth more then once before leaving the house – a true indication of my hectic schedule (don’t worry – i do keep a toothbrush at work just for such an occasion!) It is travel season again and when Greg is out of town it’s just really hard to find the time to sit down at blog – nap times are reserved for the mountain of household chores that are much easier to do when fi is sleeping. Greg has been home since tuesday…but left again this morning for a couple of days and then will leave again on the 19th…I have to get this caught up before then!
